The Tour Montparnasse in the south of Paris offers you the best opportunity to meet the Eiffel Tower at eye level. But that’s not the only thing that makes the skyscraper one of the most popular viewpoints in the city! Since the building is the tallest in the area, you generally have a fantastic view of all of Paris from here. In this article we tell you everything about the Tour Montparnasse – with all the information about tickets and Co!

The view from the Eiffel Tower is great – but it has one big drawback: you can’t see the steel colossus itself. The tower of Montparnasse in the south of the city is really impossible to miss in the city panorama. The 59-story office building rises almost 210 meters into the sky – the surrounding buildings are just 5 to 6 stories high. So the view is truly spectacular!

What is the Tour Montparnasse?

Tour Montparnasse, also known as Tour Maine-Montparnasse, is a 210-meter skyscraper located in the district of the same name in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. It is the tallest building in the city and offers breathtaking views of the city from its 56th floor observation deck. You can enjoy the view of the city from the observation deck, which is located at a height of 150 meters. From here you can see the famous sights of Paris such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and Notre-Dame. There is also a café and bar on the observation deck where you can enjoy a snack or drink while enjoying the view. Tour Montparnasse was opened in 1969 and is a popular tourist destination.

The ticket for the viewing platform costs 18 euros, online the ticket is just as expensive, however, I can recommend it to you, because you save the queuing at the cash desk. A reduced price of 15 euros applies for young people between 12 and 18 years and students. Children between 4 and 11 years pay 9.50 euros, people with reduced mobility 7.50 euros. In addition, there are offers for a 48-hour ticket, which allows you to enjoy the view both day and night (from 23 euros for adults).

The entrance to the observation deck for visitors is located on the west side of the building. For the cash registers, join the line under the small canopy labeled Visite Panoramique. If you already have a ticket, you can go past the line on the left and take the group entrance. You will have to pass a security check in any case.

As a rule, you shouldallow between 15 and 40 minutes of waiting time at the Tour Montparnasse. The observation deck is open every day of the year, but the opening hours vary depending on the season. Last admission is always 30 minutes before closing.

The elevator will take you to the 56th floor of the skyscraper. Here you will already find the first viewing platform. But it goes even higher! You can only climb the last three floors of the tower via stairs. On the 59th floor you will reach the large roof terrace. It is protected from the wind by glazing all around – with a direct view of the Eiffel Tower.

Be sure to come here just before sunset to see Paris transformed into a sea of lights!

There are also seating areas and overview boards to help you find your way around. Those who want to toast the spectacular view can enjoy a glass of champagne at the small bar. But you can also get other drinks and small snacks here.

How to get to the Tour Montparnasse

Montparnasse is much further away from the center than the Marais or the Latin Quarter, but – like Montmartre – it still has a reputation! The artists’ quarter attracted creative minds from all walks of life during its heyday – including Picasso and Hemingway. Even today it is known for its many small bistros and excellent créperies. The best way to get there is to take metro lines 4, 6, 12 and 13 – they stop at the Montparnasse-Bienvenue station.

Is the Tour Montparnasse worth a visit?

At first I was in doubt whether a visit to this observation deck was worth it, because there are many critics of the 1970s architecture. But I can report to you that I was very happy to come here to finish the day. Feet sore from sightseeing, the view of the Eiffel Tower was simply magnificent. What’s great is that you can grab a lounge chair and grab a refreshment at the (unfortunately a bit more expensive) bar and enjoy the view of Paris.

Overall, the view from Tour Montparnasse is an unforgettable experience for all visitors to Paris. It offers a breathtaking view of the city and its famous landmarks that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s definitely worth a visit when visiting Paris.
