What better way to end the day than with a drink while enjoying the view of Rome? In the city of Rome, you have a great choice of really good rooftop bars in many beautiful places. From some bars you look directly on the Colosseum, the Vatican or the Pantheon – I am thrilled every time and can only recommend a visit to one of the bars with a view.
What you’ll notice is that many of the rooftop bars in Rome are found on the roofs of hotels (check out my hotel tips for Rome here). Some have really big roof terraces, others even offer a lounge, so that – if the weather should not play along – you still have a wonderful view of Rome, without getting wet.

From the restaurant on the rooftop terrace, you’ll have a wonderful view of many of the city’s sights, most notably Circus Maximus, The Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. What I find particularly nice is the view of the busy Via Luigi Petroselli, so there is always something to see! The restaurant itself has put its focus on Mediterranean cuisine, which is modern and creative executed. What you’ll notice is that you can expect a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and although you’re in the middle of life, it’s quiet up here. Perfect to recharge your batteries for the next sightseeing stages.

This spot is not a classic rooftop bar, but still absolutely had to be on my best list! It’s a rooftop restaurant atop the sensational luxury Palazzo Manfredi hotel, which offers stunning, unobstructed views of the Colosseum. It really is right on this Rome landmark, and it’s not the only thing that makes Aroma so special.The rooftop restaurant Aroma at Palazzo Manfredi seats just 28 people, who can expect first-class food – after all, it’s Michelin-starred. If you’re looking for a very special, romantic and exclusive place in Rome, there’s hardly any way around it. Reservations are strongly advised, the seats are highly sought after and booked up well in advance. If there are no seats available or you don’t want to go to the restaurant, there is another terrace with its own lounge, called “American Bar”.

The decor, style, and vibe fits the boutique style, yet it’s really relaxed here. What you’ll especially like is the gorgeous view of the historic center with all its famous churches and – well, of course – the Spanish Steps. If you’re a guest of the hotel, you can have breakfast on the roof terrace – and try fusion food from Italian and Asian cuisine in the afternoon and evening. The drinks are really good, too, of course, especially the Cielo Negroni. This rooftop bar is not cheap, but it rewards you with a great view!

The rooftop restaurant of the Hotel Eden borders directly on the district “Historic Rome”, from here you can easily reach all the important sights on foot.

Where many stylish rooftop bars tend to come across as too cool, it’s different here: there are little nibbles between drinks, the visitors are relaxed, and the staff are courteous and really nice. Of course, it’s really nice in the evening and at sunset, because you have a completely unobstructed view. Yes, the Up Sunset Bar charges for this – but the view definitely compensates!
